What Changed with De Minimis

The De Minimis exemption used to allow imports under $800 to enter the U.S. duty-free. For example, a distributor could import small-batch custom pens or tote bags under that threshold without paying tariffs—making direct overseas sourcing an affordable option.

Due to recent policy changes, direct imports from China—including orders under $800—are now subject to tariffs as high as 145%. The U.S. will also increase the per-postal-item fee from the planned $75 to $100 on parcels entering before June 1. After that date, the fee increases to $200 per item instead of the previously announced $150.

Many distributors are getting hit with unexpected charges on shipments from China, and we’re here to help you navigate the impact.

What This Means for You

  • Direct importing from China may now be cost-prohibitive.
  • Surprise fees may arrive after your product ships.
  • Disrupted margins on imported goods.
